Dual heat source
The Dr infrared heater can send out up to 60% more heat than other conventional heaters which are 1500w. So how does it do that? Apparently the wattage is the amount energy required to power the heater but it doesn’t mean that heaters of the same wattage can output the same amount of heat. This infrared heater has a higher efficiency blower that is larger than the fans other heaters use and can send out up to 60% more heat into the room.
This portable heater has a dual heating system, the infrared heating system that gives efficient energy with maximum comfort and convection heating that can heat the room fast to minimise any cold spots in the room. This heater states that it can heat a room up to 1000 square feet.
In a test comparison that was conducted in the same size area with the same ambient temperature at the start, it was shown that the Dr Infrared Heater Portable Space Heater, 1500-Watt could heat up the area much more quickly than a more expensive standard heater.
The makers of the Dr Infrared heater believe that if you use this heater you will save money on your electric bill up to 50%. This is going to be dependent on if you have electric central heating or if you’re power source is a similar cost to electric. Going off customer reviews some people are certainly getting savings but not all.
Benefits of Infrared
The benefits of infrared heating is that it doesn’t try to heat the air which in turn heats you, it actually heats any object in it’s path including you. This means that you feel an instant heat and the objects in the room absorb the heat too and then radiate it back into the room which heats up the surrounding air. This allows you to have the room heated up without losing the moisture in the air and that’s what makes a conventional heater make you feel dry mouthed and lethargic. It also dries out your skin.
Cool to the touch
The Doctor infrared heater is only a small size of 13 x 11 x 16 inches. The outer casing is made of wood and looks like it would fit easily into any home. It’s on castors so it can easily be moved to any part of the room that you wish or to any room in your home. Although the heater emits a lot of heat it stays very cool inside and stays cool to the touch on the outside too.
There is an auto shut off overheat protection for safety so that if for any reason the heat inside the unit goes above a certain set level the sensor in the heater will cause it to be automatically shut off.
12 hr timer
This portable heater has a remote control for easy use, and it also has a timer so that you can set it and forget it for up to 12 hours. You must power on your unit before you can use the remote control. This has been set up as a safety feature so you can’t put it on by mistake if you sit on the remote or one of your kids press the button when you’re not there. There is an electronic thermostat in the heater so you can set the temperature you would like to sit in from 50 to 86 degrees.
There are 3 power settings to choose from auto, low which uses 1000w and high which uses 1500w. Once you have chosen your temperature the thermostat cycles the heater on and off to maintain it. You can run it on low which is a lower wattage but it will take longer to heat up your room at high it will get to your desired temperature much quicker. You can also set it to auto and it will use high till it gets to the right temperature then it will switch over to the low setting for 10 minutes then check the temperature of your surroundings, if it is there or higher it will cycle off until it drops below and it will come on again.
Tip over protection
The Dr Infrared Heater Portable Space Heater is equipped with a safety tip over switch. This means that if it is tipped over for any reason it will automatically switch off. It’s a sturdy little heater and it isn’t easy to tip if it is used as directed on a hard floor, but it is an excellent safety feature and the whole unit is UL certified.
This heater has a 3 year warranty but it also has a 80,000 hours of life which can give you a few winters of use.
The main comment that customers are making is that it works. It heats up very quickly and has a comfortable warmth which is nice to sit in. Although the heater is small in size it can pack a punch in the heating stakes and it often means that people can stop using their main heating sooner in the year and just use this and that is saving them money. Some people have cold areas in their house especially basements and that is where the Dr Infrared heater comes into it’s own. Mostly people are happy with the speed it heats up, the quality and the cost. On the downside some people have found that the plug overheats and suggest you plug it into a safety plug just for that extra safety. Some people have found that it stopped working over time and some had problems with the thermostat and the heater not heating up the room.
Many people are finding the cost of staying warm excessive and some people are using this to supplement their central heating by turning their heating to a low level and just heating up rooms that are being used or in some cases using it in place of their central heating. If you feel you would benefit then why not check out the Dr Infrared Heater Portable Space Heater, 1500-Watt, it doesn’t have a large footprint and is a safer alternative to some portable heaters.
